Top Ways of Purifying Water

Water PurificationThere are many ways to purify water in the wild. Obviously, the most convenient are through the use of water purification tablets or droplets. These are made from chemicals that react with whatever liquid you put them in to purify the liquid’s water content. They neutralize any harmful bacteria and microorganisms to make the water safe to drink.

Another way to purify water is through physical filtration. There are many filter materials you can find in the wild. Sand and other fine-grained particles can do a good job in filtering water. Charcoal, if you can find it, is a particularly efficient filter material. It does a great job of not only reducing microorganisms in the fluids that you are going to be using for drinking water, but it also absorbs chemicals in the water.

Another great way to purify water is through iodine. It’s a good idea to keep this compound stored in your emergency shelter. A little bit of iodine goes a long way in making water safe to drink.

If you have access to fire or can easily create a fire, boiling water is also a good idea. If you come across some stagnant water, to make it safe for drinking, you need to boil it for 3 to 12 minutes. Create enough steam and heat so as to neutralize any potentially harmful organisms in the water.

Finally, it’s a good idea to store bleach in your emergency shelter. By simply adding around 16 drops of liquid bleach to water, you can make it portable. Now keep in mind that you need the proper ratio. Make sure that you don’t put too much bleach into the water because it might become toxic. Start with a fairly large amount of water and add 16 drops of liquid bleach.
